Let’s talk about hyperpigmentation for a minute. It’s about to get educational up in here, y’all! I wanted to share this because it’s a powerful message.
Watch this video. There will be a quiz at the end and if you fail, you’ll be kicked out of the tall club. (just kidding!)
Hyperpigmentation is a pretty common skin condition where you have areas of skin that are darker than your normal skin color. This happens when there is an excess of melanin deposits in those areas. you can have this condition no matter what your race is. When you see a woman with no makeup on and she has those dark areas around her eyes… that’s hyperpigmentation. It doesn’t happen just on the eyes though. It can be anywhere on you face. My face has hyperpigmentation on my cheek area. It’s kind of like a natural contour on my face. It doesn’t just occur on the face, though.
Common causes of skin hyperpigmentation include:
- Sun exposure
- Hormonal changes
- Botched skin treatments
It can be treated with a laser or chemical peel, a photofacial, or skin lightening products if you want to go that route. It can also be covered with corrector and concealer as part of your daily makeup routine. I agree that you don’t do anything for anyone else. You do it for you. Either way, you are beautiful.
